STANFORD — The wait is almost over.
After over 10 months of gutting and reconstruction at 202 West Main Street in downtown Stanford and a series of soft openings and taste testings, Mama DeVechio’s Pizzeria will open its doors to the public tomorrow.
Chef Bill Hawkins and his staff will begin serving customers at the stone hearth oven establishment at 11 a.m. Friday.
The eat-in or carry out pizzeria will be open six days a week, serving customers from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Mama DeVechio’s is closed Sundays.
“It’s a casual Italian eatery,” said John Learned, manager of hospitality. “We are serving personal size pizzas, 10-inch pizzas.”
Mama DeVechio’s offers specialty pizzas on its menu, however, customers can build their own pizza using any of the local ingredients on hand. The cost of a base pie (cheese pizza) is $6.50. Add a vegetable for an added cost of 75 cents per vegetable or add a meat for an additional $2.25.
The vegetable menu includes: tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, banana peppers, butternut squash, apples, spinach and arugula.
Cheese choices include: mozzarella, provolone, Alfredo sauce, feta, white cheddar and blue cheese.
Among the specialty pizzas on the menu are the Semplice, the Classica, the Fresca, the Tre Frommagi, the Funghi and the Inverno.
The Semplice, which is $6.99, includes marinara and mozzarella and provolone cheeses.
The Classica features more traditional flavor combinations. The pizza, which is $12.50, includes mozzarella, provolone and parmesan cheeses, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, sausage, and pepperonis all layered above Mama D’s signature marinara sauce.
The Fresca features a combination of mozzarella, provolone and parmesan cheeses, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, banana peppers, spinach, and lemon zest, all layered over Alfredo sauce. The Fresca is $10.75.
For $6.50, customers can enjoy the Tre Frommagi, which features spinach, feta, olive oil, mozzarella, provolone and cherry tomatoes.
For mushroom lovers, Mama D’s has the Funghi. The Funghi pie has alfredo sauce, mozzarella, provolone, mushrooms, onions, arugula and garlic. This pie is $9.50.
And finally, there is the Inverno pie for $11. This pizza features butternut squash, apple, onions, white cheddar, blue cheese and arugula.
Mama D’s also offers up a dessert pizza — the Torta Di Mele. This sweet treat is a perfect ending to a meal with its combination of apples, craisins, walnuts, cinnamon and maple.
