The Stanford Lions Club is sponsoring a new club, the Stanford Leo Club, for teens 12 to 18 years of age. The Leo Club will serve their community just as the Lions do with fundraisers and service projects.
The Leo Club has officers and by-laws and will be operated by the decisions of these young Leos as a group. Advisors for the Leo Club are Lion Missy Swett, Lion Amanda Gearhart, Lion Perri Friend and Lion Rhonda Bullock.
The Leos have met three times and have come up with great ideas for both service and fundraising. They have elected officers, established meeting times, look forward to being chartered very soon and have created their own T-shirt design.
The Leos plan to work with the elderly, homeless and senior citizens, support the backpack program and environmental issues, and hold car washes and bake sales. They plan to hand out healthy snacks on Halloween.
If you would like to join this group of service-oriented teenagers, join them at the Lincoln County Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. or contact Leo advisors Lion Missy Swett (336) 653-5148 or melissafswett@gmail.com, Lion Amanda Gearhart (606) 879-1281 or lcpldirector@me.com, Lion Perri Friend (859) 339-9128 or pfriend1218@gmail.com, or Lion Rhonda Bullock (606) 448-9183 or rhonda.hoovesofhope@aol.com.
