STANFORD — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded an equipment grant by Hero K9 for their K9 Akim.

An in-squad kennel will be provided to the agency for K9 Akim at no cost, thanks to the generosity and support of the public, through donations to Hero K9’s general fund.

K9 Akim is a three-year-old German Shepherd certified in patrol, tracking/trailing and narcotics. He is assigned to Sheriff Curt Folger of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Folger says Akim is ‘a great narcotics dog and is well versed in criminal apprehension and tracking. He works hard, plays hard, and loves his toys!”

The in-squad kennel, valued at $2,500 and made by American Aluminum in Perry, Florida, will be shipped directly to the department through Hero K9’s distributor, Streicher’s, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A complimentary BarkBox will also be sent to the department.

Folger wished to thank Hero K9 for the donation of the in-squad kennel.

“This kennel allows for safe transport of the dog as well as safe transport of a prisoner,” he said. “Without the generous support of the Hero K9, we would not have this equipment.”

K9 Akim is still in need of a door pop + heat alarm system, valued at $1500, to help keep him safe from hot temperatures inside the squad and to allow him to come to Folger’s aid at the touch of a button.
