“The were both traveling north and she (driver of vehicle) struck him from the rear and it threw him off the buggy,” Marcum said. “Of course, he hit his head and he died instantly.”

Troyer, who Marcum said was hit probably about a mile from his home, was not riding in a typical Amish buggy when he was struck.

“He was on a two-wheeled cart that had a seat on it that I think they call a work buggy. He didn’t have anything around him to protect him. He was very exposed.”
Troyer’s horse was found uninjured.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident and the investigation has been turned over to the Kentucky State Police Post 7. The KSP had not released an official press release at press time.

According to WKYT-TV, authorities said the driver that hit Troyer, 64-year-old Mary Carter of Crab Orchard, is charged with DUI. She was taken to a local hospital for a toxicology test before being booked in the Lincoln County Regional Jail Wednesday afternoon.
