Madelyn Day prepares for state DYW

MADELYN DAY, Lincoln County’s 2018 Distinguished Young Woman will compete in the state program Friday and Saturday at the Singletary Center for the Arts.
Lincoln County’s 2018 Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) winner Madelyn Day has spent the past week in Lexington with a host family as she prepares for the Kentucky DYW at the Singletary Center for the Arts in Lexington Jan. 12-13.
Prior to her departure, the latest DYW titleholder met with previous local winners during a luncheon hosted by Sheila and Stuart Underwood. During the luncheon, each of the previous winners sharted tips and hints with Day for participating in the state program.
Those previous winners sharing their knowledge were: Joanna Howerton Stevens (2005), Nicolette Coontz Bailey (2009), Karina Harness Baker (2010), Leanne Kirkpatrick (2011), Taylor Faulkner (2013) and Kaylie Padgett (2015).
The state DYW program will be held in three sessions, with the first preliminary Friday night at 7 p.m., the second preliminary at 11 a.m. Saturday morning and the finals at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
