Have you ever wanted to learn to twirl a baton?

Please join us on Saturday, January 27 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum (201 Avenue of Champions, Lexington) for a chance to learn how to twirl baton from current and alumni University of Kentucky Sweetheart Majorettes and Jewel of the Bluegrass Feature Twirler, Miranda VanHoozen.  Please register by emailing uksweetheartalumni@gmail.com including name, age, skill level and t-shirt size of the twirler. A $25 fee will be collected at the door. Water, gatorade and snacks will be provided.  Please bring a baton for yourself and any extras to loan to those just learning to twirl.  The Sweethearts will celebrate their 50th anniversary this fall.

Blood Drive scheduled

It’s time to bleed blue! Big Blue Slam is the annual blood drive competition between Kentucky and Florida basketball fans. Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in Florida enjoy this friendly competition every January to see whose donors can give the most blood. This is the tenth year for the event that is a fun way to prove who has the most generous fans while also helping to pump up the blood supply at a time when colds, flu and winter weather can negatively impact it. Kentucky leads the Gators in this competition, five to four. Kentucky fans can give blood during Big Blue Slam at the following donation location: Lincoln County Community, Thurday., Jan. 25 from 12:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship room at the Stanford Presbyterian Church, 213 East Main in Stanford. Blood donors must be at least 17-years- old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year- old donors must

Democratic Woman’s Club to meet

McDowell Wellness Center offering swim lessons

McDowell Wellness Center is offering swimming lessons beginning Tuesday, Jan. 9. Participants can choose to attend the 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. class. Each lesson is 45 minutes and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks.  Classes are available for all age groups and are taught by certified instructors. American Legion Post 18 monthly meetings

Good Grief Support Group
