University of Kentucky Majorette Clinic 

Have you ever wanted to learn to twirl a baton?

Please join us on Saturday, January 27 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum (201 Avenue of Champions, Lexington) for a chance to learn how to twirl baton from current and alumni University of Kentucky Sweetheart Majorettes and Jewel of the Bluegrass Feature Twirler, Miranda VanHoozen.  Please register by emailing uksweetheartalumni@gmail.com including name, age, skill level and t-shirt size of the twirler. A $25 fee will be collected at the door. Water, gatorade and snacks will be provided.  Please bring a baton for yourself and any extras to loan to those just learning to twirl.  The Sweethearts will celebrate their 50th anniversary this fall.

Lincoln County Spelling Bee

Lincoln County Public Schools will hold a County Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Feb. 7. LC School to hold public forum

The Lincoln County School Nutrition Department is holding a public forum on the School Wellness Program tonight (Thursday, January 11) at 5 p.m. at the Lincoln County Board of Education.

An area grain crops producers meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 25 at the Boyle County Extension Office. South Central Kentucky Tobacco Growers meeting

The South Central Kentucky Tobacco Growers meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Lincoln County Extension Office. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. followed by speakers at 6:30 p.m.  All tobacco growers are invited and urged to attend. This program is approved for GAP certification and re-certification by all buying companies and market locations. Blood Drive scheduled

It’s time to bleed blue! Big Blue Slam is the annual blood drive competition between Kentucky and Florida basketball fans. Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers in Florida enjoy this friendly competition every January to see whose donors can give the most blood. This is the tenth year for the event that is a fun way to prove who has the most generous fans while also helping to pump up the blood supply at a time when colds, flu and winter weather can negatively impact it. Kentucky leads the Gators in this competition, five to four. Kentucky fans can give blood during Big Blue Slam at the following donation location: Lincoln County Community, Thurday., Jan. 25 from 12:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship room at the Stanford Presbyterian Church, 213 East Main in Stanford. Blood donors must be at least 17-years- old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year- old donors must

Nature’s Thyme Herb group to meet

Nature’s Thyme Herb group will meet on Thursday, Jan 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Garrard County Extension office. Planning, Planting and Growing an Herb Garden… Lori Bowling, Horticultural Agent from Boyd County will enlighten us on how to get started. Democratic Woman’s Club to meet

The Democratic Woman’s Club will meet Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5 p.m. at the Kentucky Depot Restaurant. New officers will be installed. All ladies are invited to attend. If Lincoln County Schools are closed due to inclement weather that day, the meeting will be cancelled.

McDowell Wellness Center offering swim lessons

McDowell Wellness Center is offering swimming lessons beginning Tuesday, Jan. 9. Participants can choose to attend the 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. class. Each lesson is 45 minutes and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks.  Classes are available for all age groups and are taught by certified instructors. American Legion Post 18 monthly meetings

The American Legion Post 18 in Stanford meets the first Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln County Public Library, second floor. All veterans are welcome.

Square Dance lessons

SBDM Council meetings

•Waynesburg Elementary’s SBDM Council: January 18, 2018; February 15, March 15, April 19,  and May 17. All meetings will be held at 4 p.m. in the school library.

•Hustonville Elementary’s SBDM Council: January 18 at 4:30 p.m., February 15 at 4:30 p.m., March 15 at 4:30 p.m., April 19 at 4:30 p.m., and May 17 at 4:30 p.m.

•Highland Elementary’s SBDM Council: January 17, February 21, March 21, April 18, May 16 and June 13. The meetings are held at 4:30 p.m. in the school library.

Good Grief Support Group

The Good Grief Support Group will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the second and last Thursday of each month at the Lincoln County Public Library. Join our caring, compassionate atmosphere as we share life experience and understanding in times of grief and bereavement. Snacks and coffee will be provided. New book store seeks local artists

Lions Club monthly meetings

The Lions Club meets on the first and third Mondays of every month at the Lincoln County Public Library. The public is encouraged to attend and are invited to join the Lions Club. Cedar Creek Sportsman Club meetings
