Police Memorial/Lincoln County First Responders Day
Join us at 11 a.m. on May 15 at the City Parking Garage to honor our law enforcement and first responders on Peace Officers Memorial Day.  This event is presented by Lincoln Masonic Lodge #60 in cooperation with The Blue Knights of KY. There will be a flag-lowering ceremony at the city parking garage and lunch available for $5. First responders eat for free. All are also invited to follow a precession to the Buffalo Springs Cemetery at 10 a.m., before the flag ceremony to pause at the graves of Thomas Barton and Thomas Napier.

Free training for
child care providers

Free training for child care providers, presented by KET, will be held Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lincoln County Public Library (3 credit hours). Call (606) 365-7513 to register by Thursday, May 11. Brought to you by the Lincoln County Community Early Childhood Council.

Democratic Woman’s
Club to meet

The Democratic Woman’s Club will meet Thursday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Depot Restaurant. All ladies are welcome.

Blood drive to be held
For many, springtime in Kentucky means Keeneland, Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. Kentucky Blood Center is celebrating the season with a special Win, Place and Show You Care T-shirt for blood donors. Area donors are invited to give so others may live at the upcoming blood drive set for Friday, April 21 from 1 to 6 p.m. in the fellowship room of the Stanford Presbyterian Church, 213 East Main Street. For more information, call 800-755-2522. No appointments are necessary. Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. 

Public meeting on Community Recreational needs
Under the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965 (Public Law 88-578), citizens are afforded the opportunity to express their views concerning the recreational needs of their community. To provide a forum for discussion, an open meeting is being held on April 25, 2017, at 5:00 P.M. at the Stanford City Hall, 305 E. Main Street, Stanford, KY sponsored by the City Council. The specific purpose of this meeting is to discuss the Land and Water Conservation grant application to construct an asphalt trail and add benches.

Health Department to host
Diabetes Self-Management training

The Lincoln County Health Department will host a 2-part Diabetes Self-Management Training on Monday, May 8 and Monday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (each day) at the Lincoln County Health Department. This is a free comprehensive Diabetes Management Training course that will help attendees learn how to effectively manage their diabetes. Lunch is provided and registration is required by calling Lee Ann Taylor at the health department at (606) 365-3106.

Hustonville Elementary to hold SBDM election
Hustonville Elementary will hold an election on Monday, April 17 for an additional Site-Based Decision Making parent representative.

Lincoln Memorial ceremony
Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park invites you to witness the Lincoln Memorial Ceremony that was held 152 years ago at Camp Nelson. The 12th USCT Heavy Artillery regiment will honor the death of President Lincoln with a 21 cannon salute on Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m. The Association of Lincoln Presenters will be in attendance.

Crab Orchard Spring
Cleanup Days 

The City of Crab Orchard will have Spring Clean-Up Days for RESIDENTS WITHIN CITY LIMITS. It will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May 8 and 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two dumpsters will be located behind City Hall and all items with the exception of tires, appliances, batteries, paint cans, hazardous waste products, or dead animals will be accepted.
 
Crab Orchard Spring
City Wide Yard Sale

The City of Crab Orchard will have its annual Spring City Wide Yard Sale on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 4, 5 and 6. No Yard Sale Permits will be required for these days.

Easter Excitement in the Park at William Whitley House
William Whitley House is hosting “Easter Excitement in the Park” for adults and children on Saturday, April 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The egg hunt for children through age 11 will start at 1 p.m. (over 2,000 eggs). There will be other games and activities for adults and children also. Everyone welcome.

LC Health Department closings
The Lincoln County Health Department will be closed Friday, April 14 in observance of the Good Friday holiday and will also be closing at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26 for a staff meeting. 

Blue Grass Community Action offering scholarship
Blue Grass Community Action Partnership will offer a $750 scholarship to a person in Lincoln County. The applicant must need the income guidelines for the Community Service Block Grant program and meet other competitive requirements. The scholarship  may be used to help cover expenses associated with attending college or a technical school of the recipient’s choice. Applications for the scholarship may be obtained from the guidance counselor at each area high school or by calling Blue Grass Community Action’s Community Developer, Jamie Greathouse at (606) 365-2312. The deadline for submitting an application is April 30, 2017.

Summer boot camp

Hustonville hosts
Free Dump Days

There will be free dump days for Lincoln County residents April 19-24. Free dump day’s is for residential customers only, no commercial businesses. Residents are encouraged to bring their junk to the dumpsters located at 7910 Old Liberty Rd in Hustonville (across from City Hall). Household junk, clothing, appliances and other miscellaneous items will be accepted. No tires or propane tanks. For more questions please call Solid Waste at (859) 304-2006.

Stanford Litter Cleanup
A Stanford litter cleanup will be held Friday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers can sign up in front of the PVA/Chamber of Commerce office. Trash bags and gloves will be given to volunteers.

Logan-Hubble Park events
The community is invited to be a part of the following events scheduled at the Logan-Hubble Park: April 15 – 9:00 a.m., Wildflower Walk with Eric Comley, Garrard County 4-H Extension Agent. Please park in the parking lot next to the basketball courts; April 22 – 9 a.m. to noon. Clean up/work day at the park. Volunteers welcome. Sponsored by Bluegrass Greensource Clean Sweep Program; and June 10 – 9 a.m. to noon – Join us for the first William “Bill” Martin Youth Fishing Derby sponsored by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife to celebrate the designation as a FINS Lake.

Stanford Spring Cleanup
City of Stanford 2017 Spring Cleanup will be held from April 17 – 28. Household items and tree limbs are to be placed by the curb for pickup. Tree limbs are to be no longer than 6 feet in length and tied into bundles. No trees which have been cut down will be picked up. Other items excluded from pickup are tires, batteries, paint and chemicals. For any questions, please call Stanford City Hall at (606) 365-4500.

Alzheimer’s Disease Series
The Lincoln County Extension is offering a series of educational programs related to Alzheimer’s Disease. Dates and topics are: April 18 – 10 a.m. – Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease: Learn what legal and financial issues to consider and how to put plans in place. May 9 – 10 a.m. – Healthy Living for your Brain and Body; May 16 – 10 a.m. – Alzheimer’s Disease Focus Group Meeting. Instructors will be Sarah Rowe, Community Outreach Coordinator with the Alzheimer’s Association, and Rita Stewart, County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences, will be coordinating and teaching most of the classes. If you are interested in participating in one or all of the sessions, please call the County Extension Office to register at (606) 365-2447. 

Fishing event for children
The Lincoln County Safe Community Taskforce and Operation UNITE invite all children to a fishing event Friday, May 5 at Cedar Creek Lake. Registration begins at 5 p.m., fishing begins at 6 p.m.. A hot dog meal will be provided, bring your own fishing pole, or use one provided. Prizes will also be awarded.

Stanford Rotary Club meetings
The Stanford Rotary Club meets most Mondays at noon, at the Kentucky Depot Restaurant. Anyone is welcome to attend.
