Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring free health screenings in Lincoln County. The screenings are open to the public for anyone 18 years of age and older.
The first screening will be held Saturday, April 1 at New Salem Baptist Church in Hustonville from 9 a.m. to noon. You may call (606) 365-4190 for an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome.
The second will be held at the Lincoln County Health Department on Wednesday, April 5 from 7:30 a.m. to noon. To schedule an appointment, please call (606) 365- 3106.
Health screenings that will be offered are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, stroke risk and take-home colorectal cancer screening kits (over age 50). After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional.
Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel. This gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.
Free colon cancer screening kits available
Colon cancer is a preventable disease, but it is the second leading cancer killer in men and third in women in the United States. It doesn’t have to be! Nine out of 10 colon cancer cases may be prevented or cured with regular screenings.
Ephraim McDowell Health will offer free, take-home colon cancer screening kits in March, which is observed as National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
The screening kits are available for anyone over the age of 50 who has not had a screening in the last 12 months. The kits may be picked up at any of the following locations during normal business hours.
• Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital information desk
• Immediate & Primary Care at Stanford Medical Park
• Lincoln County Cooperative Extension Service
