STANFORD — The words “we shall overcome” rang through the streets of Stanford Monday as a group marched down Main Street in memory of Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The group marched from the Lincoln County Courthouse steps to First Missionary Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Street, where a service was held.

“Seeing with new eyes – love made possible” was the theme of this year’s annual event. The service included a candle lighting and keynote speaker, Dr. Nick Manzie. The mistress of ceremonies was Susan Miller and the coordinator of the event was Barthenia Brown.
