Crosby, Baird win regional track and field titles

Germani Crosby and Cash Baird of Lincoln County won individual regional championships at the Class 2A, Region 5 championships May 21 in Harrodsburg.

Crosby won her third consecutive regional title in the girls shot put, where she is the defending Class 2A state champion, and also won the girls discus.

Cash Baird, a first-time regional participant, won the boys high jump.

Twelve Lincoln athletes, including relay alternates, qualified for the state meet in six events. The Class 2A section of the state meet will be Friday at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

Crosby will be seeded first in both the shot put and the discus as she tries to win two state titles. The sophomore’s top throw in the shot put at the regional meet was 35 feet, 5 inches, and she won the discus with a throw of 132-9.

Baird won his regional high jump title as the only one in the field to clear 6 feet.

Lincoln had four regional runner-up finishes, including two by Zyanya Crosby, a freshman who was second to her sister in the girls shot put and discus.

Eli Roberts, a freshman, was second in the boys 100-meter dash, and the girls 800 relay team also finished second to earn an automatic qualifying spot.

Freshman Gloria Galindo-Bartolo earned an at-large qualifying berth for the state meet after finishing third in the girls long jump, 

Galindo-Bartolo, Shelby Smith, Kinsley Reed, Jaryn Smith, McKenzie Shelton, Hallie Stafford, Mia Kate Bodner and Peyton Tillett are eligible to run the girls 800 relay.

Lincoln finished fourth out of 11 teams in the girls team standings, and the boys were tied for seventh of 11 teams.
