The Lincoln County Board of Education approved a grant at their May 9 meeting that will allow for every school in the district to have a family resource youth service center on its campus. Previously, the district was allotted six centers with Highland Elementary and Waynesburg Elementary sharing one coordinator between the two campuses.

With the acceptance of the grant, the district will now create a new fully funded coordinator position, meaning both Highland Elementary and Waynesburg Elementary will each have a coordinator.

The primary goal of these centers is to remove non-academic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success. Each center offers a unique blend of programs and services determined by the needs of the population being served, available resources, location and other local characteristics.

“This grant is huge for our students at both Waynesburg Elementary and Highland Elementary,” said Superintendent Bruce Smith. “Having a dedicated coordinator at each school now will provide many more resources and opportunities for academic success.”

Currently the district has six coordinators who are supervised by Director of Pupil Personnel Anthony Beeler: Crab Orchard Elementary-Gail Owens, Highland Elementary/Waynesburg Elementary- Brooke Walls, Hustonville Elementary-Janie Sanders, Stanford Elementary- Susan Miller,  Lincoln County Middle School- Rachel Hicks, Lincoln County High School- Amy Bastin.
