STANFORD – When citizens show up at a City Council meeting to voice a complaint and they not only feel heard, but their issue is quickly resolved, they come back to say thank you – and sometimes they keep coming back. 

At least that’s what locals Ann Stickler, Linda Denham and Ruth Spaw did. 

The trio, along with Lucille Sudduth and Linda Bryant, voiced their concerns about a group of dogs that was causing trouble in their Stanford neighborhood during a Stanford City Council meeting last year. 

Trash was being scattered everywhere and the women were scared to go outside in their own yards due to roaming dogs in the area and asked the city council to take action. 

Mayor Dalton Miller, and local law enforcement with the Stanford Police Department, resolved the dog issue quickly and the group returned to the next City Council meeting to say ‘thank you.’ 

Now they are all regulars at the council meetings. 

Miller and the group recently posed for a picture during the last City Council meeting. The picture was posted to the Stanford City Hall Facebook page with the following caption: 

“We love having guests at our council meetings and these ladies are some of our favorites. Everyone needs a fan club to cheer them on when doing well and keep them on their toes when they need corrections. Thank you ladies for loving our city and supporting us. Those smiles speak more than a thousand words could convey!”

The women attended the most recent City Council meeting and said they appreciate the city fixing the dog issue and thanked the council for various other services the city provides. 

“I appreciate y’all coming,” Miller said.
