Speaker Pro Tempore David Meade announced Friday that Garrard, Lincoln, and Rockcastle Counties will receive $62 million in funding for the partnership and development of an industrial megasite under legislation approved by the Kentucky House and Senate and sent to Governor Andy Beshear for his consideration.

“This project holds immense promise for our community and region. The investment lays a foundation for future economic development and job growth down the line,” said Speaker Pro Tempore David Meade. “I look forward to the completion of this long-awaited project and the benefits that it will bring for our local community.”

“By providing the infrastructure for economic development, we are opening the door to attract new businesses from across the country,” said House Appropriations and Revenue Vice Chair Josh Bray of Mount Vernon. “Infrastructure projects create employment opportunities, both directly through construction and maintenance jobs and indirectly by economic activity in related industries.”

In addition to the industrial megasite funding, Lincoln County is slated to receive $7 million for schools for remodeling and renovation and full funding to complete the widening of US Highway 27 to four lanes from Stanford to US Highway 34 in Garrard County.

“I’m extremely proud of what we’ve all managed to achieve for Lincoln County this year with various budget bills. Working together with Rep. Meade, our local officials, and our fellow legislators, we’ve made some big strides, including securing funding that will facilitate local road repairs, upgrades to our local school facilities, and the civic center project,” Senator Brandon Storm said. “One of the most meaningful achievements is the $62 million to foster economic growth. I want to thank Rep. Meade for really stepping up in his role as Speaker Pro Tem and advocating for Lincoln County. It is an honor to work alongside him.”

Meade was able to secure the funding as part of House Bill 1, legislation that provides $2.7 billion over the next two years to fund projects within state government and in communities throughout the Commonwealth. The bill was approved by the House and Senate and now goes to the Governor for his consideration.
