Area players, coaches join regional halls of fame

Thirteen area basketball players and coaches from area schools were recognized for their achievements during the recent 12th Region Tournaments.

Ten men were inducted into the 12th Region Boys Basketball Hall of Fame, and three women were honored by the 12th Region Girls Basketball Hall of Fame.

12th Region Boys Basketball Hall of Fame

  • Rance Baird, Casey County – Scored 1,727 career points … played for 1993 12th Region champions … 1993 Advocate area player of the year
  • Clay Cinnamon, Mercer County – Scored 1,604 career points … played in Kentucky East-West All-Star game
  • Jacob Conway, Lincoln County – School’s all-time leading scorer with 2,097 career points … had 685 career rebounds … led Georgetown College to 2019 NAIA Division I championship, played professionally in England and France.
  • Will Hager, Mercer County – Had 1,900 points, 730 rebounds, 511 assists in career … 2016 Advocate area player of the year … won two district championships, one regional championship, 84 games.
  • Noah Keeton, Lincoln County – Scored 1,090 career points … captain of back-to-back 12th Region champions … scored more than 1,000 points, played in four NAIA Division II tournaments for Northwood.
  • Brad Petrey, Lincoln County – Lead assistant coach and team bus driver for 19 years … currently serves as athletic director.
  • Ethan Spurlin, Lincoln County – Had 1,145 points, 581 rebounds in career … 2009 KABC 12th Region Player of the Year … 2012 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the year, NCAA Division III All-American at Transylvania.
  • Spencer Tatum, Harrodsburg/Mercer County – Had a 103-94 record as head coach at Harrodsburg, with three 46th District championships, one 12th Region All “A” Classic championship … Two-time KABC 12th Region Coach of the Year … As an assistant at Mercer, part of eight 46th District championships, one 12th Region championship.
  • Hagen Tyler, Boyle County – Played on 2015 team that reached the semifinals of the Boys Sweet 16 … 2015 KABC 12th Region Player of the Year, Advocate area player of the year.
  • Noah Young, Lincoln County – Scored 1,562 career points … played for four district championship teams … two-time NCCAA Division I All-American at Alice Lloyd.
  • Marion Souder, Mercer County (contributor) — Supporter of 12th Region basketball for 45 years … Financial contributor to Harrodsburg and Mercer County programs … Longtime sales representative for Aggie Sale Sports Shop in Harrodsburg.

12th Region Girls Basketball Hall of Fame

  • Seygan Robins Hager, Mercer County – 2018 Miss Basketball … Two-time Girls Sweet 16 champion … Two-time Girls Sweet 16 MVP … Four-time 12th Region champion … School’s all-time leading scorer with 2,677 career points … McDonald’s All-America nominee … Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year nominee … Two-time Lexington Herald-Leader and Courier Journal all-state … three-time 12th Region coaches player of the year … played for two seasons at Louisville, reaching NCAA regional finals in 2019, and three seasons at UT Martin.
  • Mary Jean Rogers, Garrard County – Scored more than 1,600 career points … Played for Kentucky All-Stars … Received all-state honorable mention … earned 12 letters in four sports at Transylvania and was named Pioneer Athlete of the Year in 1984 and inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in 2007.
  • Judie Mason, Danville – Already in the hall of fame for her achievements at Danville, Boyle County and Somerset, the coach was recognized along with her 1997-98 Somerset team.
