NEWS RELEASE
Anyone interested in helping abused and neglected children in Lincoln and Garrard counties can sign up for the next CASA volunteer training, scheduled to begin March 5.
CASA volunteers are matched with children in the local family court system. Each volunteer visits their child monthly, talks with adults in the child’s life, and writes reports for the judge. CASA volunteers ensure children’s needs are not overlooked.
CASA volunteers give about 5-10 hours a month and volunteer for a minimum of two years, to ensure consistency for the children they serve. The 30-hour training class begins with a class from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 5 at the Garrard Education Center.
Here’s the full training schedule:
• 5:30-8:30 p.m. March 5
• 5:30-8:30 p.m. March 12
• 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 16
• 5:30-8:30 p.m. March 19
• 5:30-8:30 p.m. March 26
• 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 6
• 5:30-8:30 p.m. April 9
Participants will also observe court and have a final interview, both of which are scheduled individually toward the end of training. A graduation and swearing in for new CASA volunteers will be 5:30 p.m. April 22.
