As a non-voting board member, Funkhouser will be a liaison between the high school student body and the board of education where she hopes to bring a fresh perspective to the board members to aid in their decision making.

Funkhouser is an award winning public speaker through her involvement with FFA. She feels like one of her strengths that will be useful in this position is being an excellent listener.

“I think when you serve the public, you have to possess great listening skills,” said Funkhouser. “Listening is its own special skill, you have to be a great listener in order to be an informed decision maker.”

Superintendent Bruce Smith said he is excited to begin working with Funkhouser.

“Gaining the perspective of our students will be very helpful to me and the board in our decision making process. We look forward to her input and insight.”

After graduating Funkhouser plans to attend college and major in agriculture education.
