Bastin, Germann win regional cross country championships

Abby Bastin of Lincoln County and Max Germann of Boyle County won individual regional cross country championships Saturday at the Region 2A-5 meet in Mill Springs.

Bastin, a sophomore, captured her third consecutive regional title by winning the girls race with a time of 20:12 over the 3.1-mile course at Cave Lake Event Park.

Germann, a senior, won his first regional title with a time of 16:50 in the boys race.

Bastin won by 24 seconds; Germann won by 20 seconds.

Boys and girls teams from Boyle and Mercer counties qualified for the state meet this Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

The Boyle girls were regional runners-up, and the Mercer girls were third. Mercer’s boys also finished third, and the Boyle boys were fifth.

Marshall Hart and Sam Lewis of Mercer finished second and fourth in the boys race. Katie Lewis of Mercer was seventh and Siddalea Gray of Boyle was eighth in the girls race.

Elijah Johnson of Lincoln also qualified for the state meet.

DCA boys qualify

The Danville Christian boys qualified for the state meet with a sixth-place finish in the Region 1A-5 meet at Bourbon County Park in Paris.

Lake Adkins led DCA with a 15th-place finish in the boys race; Titus Boyd and Eli Perez of DCA were 17th and 20th.

Addison Hill of DCA and Ellie Pennington of Danville earned qualifying berths by finishing 12th and 17th in the girls race.
