Shaker Village will host Father’s Day activities

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill will host a fun-filled day of baseball, classic cars, old-fashioned tractors, tools and heritage demonstrations from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in celebration of Father’s Day. An admission ticket (free for ages five and under, $8 ages 6-12, $16 ages 13-61, $12 seniors, first responders and military) will give visitors access to all of the day’s events and allow you to partake in the Village’s Daily Adventure Tours.

The Bluegrass Barons and Cincinnati Redstockings will face-off in a vintage 1869 baseball game from 1-4 p.m. Both teams will utilize period-reproduction uniforms and equipment while following game rules from the late 19th century. Guests should bring their own lawn chairs to relax under the shade trees lining the field.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is a landmark destination that shares 3,000 acres of discovery in the spirit of the Kentucky Shakers. With 34 original Shaker structures, the site is home to the country’s largest private collection of original 19th century buildings and is the largest National Historic Landmark in Kentucky. Onsite services at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill include overnight accommodations, dining, catering services, craft shops, exhibitions in historic buildings, a farm and garden area and 1,000 acres of restored native prairie.

A classic car and tractor show will be on display from noon-5 p.m. Owners will be available to meet and discuss collecting and caring for these unique pieces of Americana. A vintage tool display also kicks off at noon where guests can learn about hand tools from the past and speak to tool historian Calvin Shewmaker.

A variety of heritage demonstrations and activities are scheduled throughout the day including:

• Axe Throwing for ages 12+

• Pony Rides, $5 per ride

• Hay Wagon Rides

• Tools of the Shakers Program featuring artifacts from the Pleasant Hill collection

• Basket Weaving with Derek Downing

• Woodworking with Bob Cairns

• Plein Aire Painting with Dan McGrath

• Green Penguin Hot Sauce with Justin Stanley

• Shaker Reproductions with Lincoln Trail Woodcrafts

• Carriage House Reconstruction with Preservation Carpenter Robert Brown

Food trucks specializing in burgers, hotdogs and barbecue, as well as a beer tent will be available throughout the day.

Guests can make an entire weekend of treating the dad in their life with an overnight stay at the historic Shaker Village Inn. The Inn features 72 rooms, suites and private cottages with modern amenities spread throughout 13 original Shaker buildings.
