A group gathered at the Lincoln County Courthouse Monday to celebrate the life and lessons of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The ceremony began in song, led by Master of Ceremony Glenn Gooch followed by the reading of scripture by Rev. Dennis Miller.

Miller read one of King’s favorite scriptures, which came from the book of Isaiah.

Rev. Christopher Simpson then led the group in prayer.

After hearing words from Rev. Ashley Tackett-Evans, the group began it’s march down Main Street, ending at the First Missionary Baptist Church.

A ceremony was held at the church which included song, scripture, prayer, and guest speakers, as well as a candle lighting.

Speakers at the event included Stephon Wilkinson, Sara Givens, Charles Fegan, Natalie Coulter-Brown, Mayor Dalton Miller, Rev. Robert Coulter Jr., Rev. Jerry Wilkinson, Donnie Gilliam, Rev. Darrick Briscoe, Rev. Reginald Pullums and Rev. Floyd Raglin. Barthenia Brown was the coordinator of the event.
