Wilderness Road Hospitality has unveiled a new mural on Main Street that welcomes visitors to downtown Stanford.

The mural, painted by local artist Kirby Stafford, honors Stanford’s history as Kentucky’s second-oldest city and celebrates the town’s hospitality. The horse hitching post pays homage to the settlers that traveled the Wilderness Road trail before the city’s founding.

A dedication ceremony was held on Monday, July 7, and Stanford Mayor Dalton Miller and Wilderness Road Hospitality co-founder Angela Correll shared about the importance of Stanford’s history.

“Stanford is older than the state of Kentucky,” Mayor Miller shared. “The great thing about Stanford and its citizens is the great strides that they’ve made in preserving this community.”

“Our team has been thinking for a while about how to provide a welcome to visitors, something that would incorporate the mission of our modern hospitality businesses but also celebrate the historic nature of Kentucky’s second oldest city,” said Angela Correll.

The mural is on the side of the former county attorney’s office at 216 W Main Street and can be seen by visitors driving down Main Street. Lights have been installed so the mural will also be visible at night.
