Joe D. States, 69, of Stanford, Kentucky passed away at home on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Born on December 13, 1951, in Jackson, Kentucky to the late Harlan and Maude States. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a Psychotherapist who worked for the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, KY until his retirement after 35 years. He had a passion to serve and help his fellow veterans. Joe enjoyed watching Kentucky Wildcats basketball, playing and listening to the banjo, and kayaking. He enjoyed being with his family, who he loved dearly. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY. Survivors include his wife, Norma Hale States of Stanford, KY; three children, Rita Setness (Michael) of Nicholasville, KY, Jim Flowers (Lisa) of Fishers, IN and Lily States of Stanford, KY; two brothers, John States (Lynn) of Hazard, KY and Roger States (Nannie) of Jackson, KY; one sister, Phyllis Turner of Ohio; four grandchildren, Brandon Copus, Zach Setness, Ashtin Templeton and Caitlin Ficklin; one great-grandchild, James Setness; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Maude States; one brother, Jackie States; one sister, Elaine Turner; and a grandson, Jonathon Copus. A one-day service has been scheduled for Monday, April 5, 2021, at Fairview Baptist Church in Waynesburg, KY. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. David Conrades officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be presented by Caswell Saufley Post 18.
