WAYNESBURG – A fatal car wreck closed Shake Rag Road in Lincoln County for several hours in the early morning hours of March 17.
Danny W. Bryant, 70, of North Vernon, IN., was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum following a one-vehicle collision.
Marcum said Bryant was traveling southbound in a Ford Explorer when the vehicle left the roadway, was over-corrected and rolled several times.
“He was ejected out of the vehicle onto the roadway,” he said. “The vehicle came to rest on its side near the guard rail on the northbound side of U.S. 27.”
Marcum said Bryant lived in Indiana but also owned a home in Whitley City and was on his way there.
A Doberman Pinscher was also in the vehicle and was not harmed, he said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Lincoln County Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Marcum said Bryant was pronounced dead at about 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
The road was closed for several hours as police reconstructed the scene and reopened early Wednesday morning.
