A wreck on Ky. 70 in Eubank may have saved an elderly woman’s life Sunday night.
Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger said a deputy had finished working the scene of a vehicle accident on Ky. 70 at about 10 p.m. Sunday and was returning to Stanford on Loop 7 when he saw a woman walking in the middle of the road. He stopped to check on her and found that she wasn’t wearing a coat and had on a short-sleeved shirt. She also didn’t know her name or where she lived, Folger said.
Lincoln County EMS was called and took her to Ft. Logan Hospital where she was cared for while law enforcement officers and the public worked to find out who she was.
Folger said he posted her photo on Facebook where more than 4,000 people shared her picture in hopes of quickly identifying the lady.
“We have a lot of caring people in Lincoln County. I don’t have a lot of good things to say about social media,” but in this case it was a big help, he said.
Kentucky State Police also used their new facial recognition program and identified her as Anna D. Young of Eubank.
Folger said the woman has dementia and had wandered no more than a quarter mile away from her home. He also said that her husband didn’t know she was missing until Monday morning.
Folger said her husban was on his way to pick her up at the hospital at about 11:30 a.m.
“It could have ended bad,” Folger said. “The Lord put us in the right place at the right time to help this lady.”
