Saying ‘thank you’ for more than three decades of service

Perhaps as much as any other job, newspaper reporters become the face of the organization and community they represent. That has certainly been the case with Nancy Leedy and The Interior Journal.

Nancy has covered sports and the community for the IJ for more than 33 years. She has documented the lives and achievements of multiple generations of Lincoln County residents with passion and professionalism.

She did an outstanding job, and no one could have done it better.

Almost two years ago, she took a great leap of faith to step outside her comfort zone and expand into news as the editor of the IJ. She did an excellent job and put her heart and soul into making the IJ the best community newspaper it could be.

All of that, and more, made my recent decision to eliminate her position the most heartbreaking I’ve made in almost 20 years leading newspapers.

The evolving business model of community media in a time of rapid technological change requires a continual evaluation of how we organize our staff to publish the best newspaper and website that the economics of the community can support.

Nancy Leedy didn’t do anything wrong, nor could she have done anything differently. Her legacy will always be intertwined with The Interior Journal and the lives of all those she touched through her journalism.

For that, and so much more, we say thank you to Nancy. I know that her next chapter will be just as impactful to the community as this one.
