STANFORD — The Lincoln County Lady Patriot basketball team failed to get the new year off to a winning start, falling 58-31 to Anderson County at home Friday night.

The Lady Patriots (5-7) came into the game off back-to-back wins in the Bankers Hardwood Classic at Russell County, looking for a win in their first home game since Dec. 9.

The Lady Bearcats, playing out of the 8th Region, came out strong in the game, holding the Lady Patriots’ scoring to single digits as they jumped out to a 21-8 lead.

Amiya Jenkins, who had a game-high 15 points, and Tiffani Riley scored six points apiece to help Anderson out to the early lead. All five Lady Bearcat starters scored in the first quarter, with Anna Foley getting five points, Sophie Smith draining a 3-pointer and Rachel Satterly adding a free throw.

For Lincoln (5-7), Lydia Rice hit from 3-point range, Trinity Shearer and Savannah Robbins had a bucket apiece and Haleigh Releford got a free throw toss.

Neither team shot well in the second quarter, with the Lady Patriot offense sputtering along with just one field goal, scored by Robbins to open the period, and a free throw from Releford. Anderson (11-2) fared a little better with three shots falling. Foley and Jenkins both hit from 3 and Jacie Chesser got a field goal to make it 29-11 at the half.

Thirteen points would be as close as Lincoln would get the rest of the way. Rice and Releford hit back-to-back buckets midway through the third quarter to get the Lady Pats within 31-19 with 3:36 left in the third.

The Lady Bearcats closed the third on an 11-2 run to take a 42-20 lead into the final period. They went on to outscore Lincoln 16-11 in the fourth to claim the lopsided victory.
