STANFORD — Lincoln County’s Lady Patriots found themselves playing from behind for the second time in 24 hours Saturday night as they took the floor against Webster County in the annual Patriot Classic.

Lincoln, which fell behind early in a loss to Anderson County on Friday, trailed early in the first quarter Saturday, however, the outcome would be different in the Patriot Classic clash as the Lady Patriots rallied to claim a 49-43 win.

Down 12-6 at the end of the first period, the Lady Patriots wasted little time in bouncing back from the deficit, breaking on a 15-2 run in the first eight minutes of the second quarter capped by three straight buckets by senior guard Trinity Shearer to turn the deficit into a 21-14 lead. Shearer led Lincoln’s scoring with 13 points.

Senior forward Lydia Rice scored all five of her points early in the second quarter as she opened the 15-2 run with two baskets and a free throw. Talynne Shearer added four points in the run.

Marissa Austin, a senior guard who led all scorers with 24 points, interrupted the Lincoln run with a bucket for the Lady Trojans with 56.6 seconds left in the first half. Adeline McDyer followed with a bucket to make it 21-18 but junior guard Haleigh Releford, who finished with 12 points, answered for Lincoln to close the first half with the Lady Pats up 23-18.

Lincoln (6-7) posted its biggest lead of the game in the third quarter. Talynne Shearer, Trinity Shearer and Releford scored three straight buckets then, after a 3-pointer by Katelyn Cates, Chloe Ralston hit to put Lincoln on top 38-27 with 1:39 left in the third

Lincoln took a 38-30 lead into the fourth quarter after Austin, who was 5-for-13 from 3-point range, closed the third with a trey.

Lincoln would have to stave off a fourth-quarter rally by Webster (4-7) to earn the win. Austin bombed in a 3-pointer to open the final frame then followed with a three-point play to pull the Lady Trojans within 38-36 with 6:19 left in the game. Webster continued to challenge Lincoln throughout the fourth and trailed just 46-43 with 38.3 seconds left in the game.

But Lincoln would not give up another point to Webster. The Lady Patriots did add to their own score before the final horn, with Talynne Shearer converting on a three-point play for the 49-43 final.
