STANFORD — It was a busy afternoon in downtown Stanford on Sunday, Dec. 8, with a crowd of over 430 runners and walkers and their many supporters crowding into Main Street for the running of the 12th Annual Jingle Bell Jog.
Dozens of people gathered in front of the Stanford Fire Department to cheer on the 433 runners and walkers as they readied for the start of the 3.1-mile race. The purpose of the race, which wound its way along the outlying streets of Stanford, was to raise money for Alzheimer’s Awareness.
The total amount of donations raised for Alzheimer’s research at the local Jingle Bell Jog has now reached $132,000, with over $12,000 raised in the latest run/walk.
The overall winner of the 2019 Jingle Bell Jog was 19-year-old Isaiah Strauel of Liberty. He completed the race in a time of 16:32.05. Ashlyn Liddle, 18, of Waynesburg, was the first female across the finish line, timed at 18:53.77 over the 3.1-mile course. She finished eighth overall.
Strauel would be the only runner posting a sub-17 time. Runner-up Nathanael Turner, 15, was just over 17 with a time of 17:05.42. Arlo Scott, 18, finished on Turner’s heels, claiming third place in 17:07.60. Fourth place went to James Ward, 17, with a time of 17:21.77 and Aiden Tucker, 17, was fifth in 18:05.79.
Lydia Strauel, 16, was the second female runner to cross the finish line. She placed 18th overall with a time of 20:17.13. The third-finishing female was Jennifer Watson, 40, with a time of 20:31.73 to place her 22nd overall, Leticia Bailey, 34, was the fourth female in in 21:41.29 to place her 33rd and Christina Simmons, 37, was fifth in 22:05.90 to finish 35th.
There was a wide range of ages participating in the Jingle Bell Jog. The youngest participant was 5-year-old Jackson Whitaker who finished in 41:57.69. Finishing not far behind him was the oldest participant, with Van Munford, 83, crossing in 42:29.63.
