Slone leads LC runners at PC Invit.

SOMERSET —Freshman Lady Patriot Alexis Slone led the Lincoln County High School cross country varsity in Saturday’s Pulaski County Invitational.
Slone was the lone Lincoln varsity runner scoring in the top 10 in the season-opener run at Northern Middle School, finishing 10th out of a field of 82 runners in the 5K run. Her time was 23:04.50.
As a team, the Lincoln girls placed fifth out of eight teams with a score of 114.
Lincoln’s top five scoring runners, in addition to Slone, were Ava Morgan, Shayley Reed, Constance Johnson and Mayci Godbey. Morgan placed 29th overall in 24:38.31, Reed ran 40th in 26:31.59, Johnson was 41st in 26:52.94 and Godbey was 52nd in 27:58.01.
The Patriot varsity placed 10th out of 12 teams with 243 points. Leading the way for Lincoln was eighth-grade runner Elijah Hoot Johnson Johnson, who covered the 3.1-mile distance in 20:11.82 to place 37th out of a field of 132 runners.
Lincoln’s other scoring runners were Jordan Greer, Gabe Singleton, Toby Sallee and Davis Wardrip. Greer crossed in 54th place in 21:06.08, Singleton was 63rd in 21:35.69, Sallee ran 75th in 22:21.46 and Wardrip was 78th in 22:37.86.
South Laurel junior Phoebe McCowan won the girls varsity 5K with the race’s only sub-20 time of 19:51.17. Runner-up Victoria Dotson of Rockcastle County finished almost a minute back in 20:45.42. Alexis Dotson, also of Rockcastle placed third in 21:14.79.
Southwestern won the team title with 58 points, host Pulaski was second with 63 points and South Laurel was third with 70.
Bell County freshman Caden Miracle won the boys event in 16:38.21. Drew Meader of South Laurel placed second in 17:26.46 and Justin Sparkman of North Laurel was third in 17:43.66.
The South Laurel boys won the team title with 32 points, North Laurel was runner-up with 95 points and Pulaski took third with 100.
Lincoln would score a victory while at Northern Middle, with the middle school girls winning the team title with 25 points.
Abigail Bastin, a sixth-grader, led Lincoln to the win by placing second out of 45 runners in the 4K race. Her time was 16:07.58. Chesley McPherson of Barren County won the race in 15:33.43.
Contributing in Lincoln’s scoring were Olivia Sousis, who ran seventh in 18:38.93, Alayna Bodner, who was 14th in 20:43.29, Kinsley Reed who was 19th in 21:27.99 and Shelby Smith, who ran 20th in 21:48.86.
The Lincoln middle school boys placed third in team competition with 69 points.
The five scoring runners were Andrew Pence, 11thm 16:58.11, Braylan Whitehouse, 12th, 17:01.59, Ramsey King, 13th, 17:02.10, Keagan Steele, 26th, 19:26.49, and Brady Dotso, 28th, 19:32.35.
