Kylee Daugherty, a fifth-grade student at Hustonville Elementary School, was selected as county winner of the Grandparent Essay Contest sponsored annually by AARP and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.

“Why My Grandparent Should be Chosen Grandparent of the Year” was the title of Kylee’s essay. She was awarded a cash prize for being chosen as county winner and her teacher was also given a stipend for school supplies.

The Grandparent Essay Contest is open to all fifth grade students.

A remembrance ceremony was also held for local members of the KRTA who passed away during the last year. Families of deceased members, Darrel Story and David Dickerson, were present for the ceremony.

Also receiving recognition at the meeting was Peggy Orberson. She had been selected for the Volunteer of the Year Award.

The Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association encourages all members to join them to keep up with Federal and State actions that might affect them. Kentucky Retired Teachers is the only group that advocates for retired teachers.
