The primary election to be held in Kentucky on May 21, 2019, is vitally important not only to the state of Kentucky but to each and every one of us, its citizens. The primary election decides the candidates of both political parties who will run for office in the November general election. We have a closed primary in this state which means that only those people who are registered to vote either as a Democrat or as a Republican are eligible to vote. Unfortunately, anyone registered in another party or as an independent cannot vote in the primary, only the general election.

This year, voters will be deciding statewide races for Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General, Auditor, and Commissioner of Agriculture. It is essential to the future of our families and the Commonwealth to make your voice heard at the ballot box. Please make the effort to educate yourself about the candidates and their positions on the issues important to all of us so you can make an informed decision when you go to the polls to vote.

A democracy such as we have here in the United States only works if the citizens participate in it. So exercise your rights of citizenship by going to the polls to vote on May 21 and encourage your friends and family to join you in the democratic process.
