STANFORD — Monday’s showdown between 12th Region foes Lincoln County and Southwestern was decidedly one-sided.
The visiting Warriors rolled to a 15-1 win over the host Bat Patriots in six innings.
Southwestern (17-3) scored eight runs over the first, second, fourth and fifth innings, capping the big production with a seven-run sixth. The Warrior effort included 10 hits and five walks off Lincoln starter Shane Brown and relievers Kyle Nevels and Blake McMullen.
Bryce Russell, Noah Helton, Tanner McKee and Riley McBryde led the Warrior offense, with Russell and Helton both 2-for-3 on the day and McKee and McBride 2-for-4. McBride and Russell each drove in three runs. Russell and Helton each scored three runs.
It was a rough night for the Bat Patriots, who fell to 2-20.
Lincoln managed just two hits against Warrior pitcher Bryce Russell. Wyatt Hon was 1-for-3 against the senior right-hander and Sawyer Carrier was 1-for-2.
Lincoln’s two hits and the team’s lone run all came in the first inning, with the Southwestern defense slamming the door on the Bat Patriot offense the rest of the way. Hon led off the bottom of the first with a single to right field then advanced to third on a fielder’s choice off a Shane Brown bunt. Hon made it a 1-1 ballgame when he scored on Carrier’s RBI single to right field.
Southwestern’s leadoff accounted for the Warriors first run in the top of the first. McKee singled to center to reach, moved to second on a Helton walk, stole third then scored on an Ethan Jones sac out.
The Warriors scored all the runs they needed for the win in the top of the second inning, pushing across three runners to move ahead 4-1. Tyler Pumphrey, Russell and Helton scored a run apiece. Pumphrey, who doubled to reach, scored on a Russell double. Russell moved to third on a wild pitch before coming in on a pop out by McKee. And Helton, who singled to reach, scored on a Jones double.
Southwestern would score in five of the six innings played, adding three more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before closing with the seven-run sixth-inning scoring blitz.
