Lincoln managed just two hits against Warrior pitcher Bryce Russell. Wyatt Hon was 1-for-3 against the senior right-hander and Sawyer Carrier was 1-for-2.

Lincoln’s two hits and the team’s lone run all came in the first inning, with the Southwestern defense slamming the door on the Bat Patriot offense the rest of the way. Hon led off the bottom of the first with a single to right field then advanced to third on a fielder’s choice off a Shane Brown bunt. Hon made it a 1-1 ballgame when he scored on Carrier’s RBI single to right field.

Southwestern’s leadoff accounted for the Warriors first run in the top of the first. McKee singled to center to reach, moved to second on a Helton walk, stole third then scored on an Ethan Jones sac out.

The Warriors scored all the runs they needed for the win in the top of the second inning, pushing across three runners to move ahead 4-1. Tyler Pumphrey, Russell and Helton scored a run apiece. Pumphrey, who doubled to reach, scored on a Russell double. Russell moved to third on a wild pitch before coming in on a pop out by McKee. And Helton, who singled to reach, scored on a Jones double.

Southwestern would score in five of the six innings played, adding three more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before closing with the seven-run sixth-inning scoring blitz.

Brown pitched 4-⅓ innings in the Bat Patriot loss, giving up eight runs off five hits and four walks. He had three strikeouts. Nevels came on with one out in the fifth inning. He gave up seven runs off five hits and one walk before he was replaced with one away in the top of the sixth. McMullen pitched one strikeout.

Southwestern’s Russell allowed one run and gave up two hits in five innings on the mound. He walked one and struck out one. Helton came on in the sixth and walked one and struck out one.
