STANFORD —The Lincoln County High School girls soccer team finished out the regular season portion of its 2018 schedule with a 6-1 win over visiting Pulaski County.
With the game deadlocked at 1-all at halftime, Lincoln coach Wendy Estes used the break to ask her team if they wanted the win.
“The entire first half was a back-and-forth play, neither team successfully connecting with the net,” she said. “The girls where starting to wear down and becoming frustrated.”
“Having an even score at half puts pressure on the second half, there is no time to be tired or let up,” Estes reminded the Lady Patriots. “‘(I said it’s) simple ladies. You have to want this more than they do.”
The Lady Patriots came out the second half and showed just how much they wanted the win, pounding in shot after shot on Lady Maroon keeper Uceil Santana, with five shots booted past Santana.
“Lincoln’s shots just started connecting with the net,” Estes said.
Five different Lady Pats got in on the second-half scoring blitz. Maddy Boyle, who scored Lincoln’s first-half goal off a Shaylee Reed assist, added a second goal in the second period and Anna Lane, Jaylee Carlton, Raelyn Amon and Bailey Story added one goal apiece for the 6-1 final.
