Lincoln County students win 28 National DAR Awards in ‘World War I: Life on the Home Front’ themed competition

The Logan-Whitley Chapter, DAR had 19 State first place winners in the Junior American Citizens Contest this year. At the State DAR Youth Awards ceremony on Saturday, April 28, Lincoln County students not only received their DAR State first place awards but, also, there were many National Awards presented. The next level of judging after state is the National East Central Division (ECD) which includes Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The final level of judging is at National.

In the category of Art:
Stamp Design: Carter Whobrey first grade, ECD first place; Trever Hebrock third grade, ECD first place; Emerson Lynn fourth grade, ECD and third place in the Nation; James Levi Stamper fourth grade, ECD first place and first place in the Nation.

Poster: Ethaniel Schuler first grade, ECD first place and first place in the Nation; Hayden Byrd fourth grade, ECD first place and second place in the Nation.

Photographic Essay: Shelby Smith fourth grade, ECD first place and first place in the Nation; Karley Rousey fourth grade, ECD first place and first place in the Nation.

In the category of Creative Writing:
Short Story: Brody Baker third grade, ECD first place and second place in the Nation; Deanna Hoffer fourth grade, ECD first place and second place in the Nation; Tinsley Bastin eighth grade, ECD first place and National Honorable Mention.

Poem: Hollie Nash second grade, ECD second place; Halle Siler fourth grade, ECD first place and National Honorable Mention; Kerynna Jarman fifth grade, ECD first place and third place in the Nation; and Connor Pendleton eighth grade, ECD second place.

In the Community Service Project category:
Community Service Project: Lincoln County Middle School eighth grade class represented by Ricky Carter, ECD first place.

Congratulations to all our National place winners!

In the DAR National East Central Division, Lincoln County students had 15 first-place winners and two second-place. At the DAR National Level, Lincoln County students had four first-place winners, three second-place, two third-place and two honorable mentions for a total of 17 National Division awards and 11 National awards.
