Free Hunter Education Course set for April 14

A free Kentucky Hunter Education Student Course is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 at the Cedar Creek Sportsman’s Club.

The course, which is sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and Cedar Creek Sportsman’s Club, runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sportsman’s Club located 6.6 miles from Stanford on New U.S. 150 East next to Cedar Creek Lake Dam. Take Sportsman Lane on the SE side of dam. 

The course includes classroom instruction in hunter ethics, wildlife conservation and identification, outdoor survival, first aid, firearm safety, treestand safety, bow hunting and ammunition. The last session includes live fire and a written examination.

A course completion card will be issued to successful students which is valid in any state, province or territory in North America. Attendance at all sessions is required unless an alternative classroom method is utilized. Pre-registration is required for all courses and is completed by visiting the Hunter Education page at fw.ky.gov.

Persons born on or after January 1, 1975, shall carry a valid hunter education course completion card while hunting. Kentucky accepts certifications from other states and provinces. Hunter Education certification is in addition to appropriate license and permit requirements.  Children must be 9 years old in order to complete the course. Children under age 12 and persons exempt from purchasing a hunting license are not required to possess a hunter education card while hunting. However, children under age 12 who have not completed hunter education shall be accompanied by an adult of at least 18 years of age while hunting.
