Ann Upchurch presented 2018 Brigid DeVries Outstanding Leadership Award

One of Lincoln County’s own was singled out for recognition during the recent 2018 KHSAA Girls State Basketball Tournament at Northern Kentucky University.

Ann Parker Upchurch of Stanford was chosen by the Kentucky High School Coaches Association to receive the 13th annual Brigid DeVries Outstanding Leadership Award.

Upchurch retired after serving the students and student athletes in Kentucky and Hawaii for 40 years. She graduated from Eastern Kntucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Rank I certificate in Administration and Supervision.

Upchurch’s teaching was with the Hawaii Public Schools, Anderson County, Wayne County, Lincoln County, Russell High Schools and Morehead State University.

Her extra activities included: cheerleading coach for 15 years, KAPOS past-president and board of directors from 1971 to present; National Cheer Coaches Association ​past president; certified judge; state mentor; received the Distinguished service award from the National Cheer Coaches Association; received the National Spirit Contributor of the Year Award from the National Federation of State High Schools Association and served on numerous committees for the Federation; she has been the world international cheer championships head judge for 10 years; she has been the KHSAA’s program sales manager for 20 years and she is active with the Kentucky retired teachers association.
