Lady Pats falter in upset bid

HARRODSBURG — The Lincoln County girls rolled into Harrodsburg Tuesday night, looking to upset defending state champion Mercer County.
But there would be no upset on the Lady Titans’ home floor, as Mercer throttled the visiting Lady Patriots 82-55.
Mercer, which started out on a 4-0 run and opened up a 20-9 first-quarter lead, led for the duration of the game, leading by as many as 34 points before picking up its 23rd win in 26 outings.
A quartet of Lady Titans led their team to victory with double-digit scoring. Emmy Souder led Mercer with 16 points and Seygan Robins, Lexy Lake and Toni McCombs all finished with 14 points.
Emma King, who led Lincoln with 16 points, and Zaria Napier scored back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 4-4 early. Maddy Boyle converted on a three-point play and followed with a bucket to keep the Lady Patriots within 11-9 before Mercer expanded on its lead with a 9-3 run to end the first.
Mercer led 31-48 at the break and 64-44 going into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Patriots (18-6) had two players in double figures, with Boyle tallying 14 points.
Kaitlynn Wilks had nine points, Trinity Shearer had seven, Zaria Napier, four, Haleigh Releford, three, and Lydia Rice, two.
