James Ernest Helton, 78, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Lebanon Health Care Center in Lebanon, Ohio. 

Born in Garrard County on June 30, 1939, James was a son of the late E.L. Helton, Sr. and Lizzie (Cauldwell) Helton. James loved his family and loved to go to church.

Survivors include his sister, Bessie Hawkins of Crab Orchard; brothers, E.L. Helton and wife Thelma of Richmond, Jasper Helton and wife Connie of Lebanon, Ohio and Robert Helton and wife Jennie of Morrow, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by four brothers, Ira, Charlie, Ray and Dee Helton; and three sisters, Naomi, Stella and Virgie.

Active pallbearers were Curtis and Earl Tankersley, David Helton, Shelby Brock, and Cory, Bobby and Jim Bob Collett.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 3, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Wright and Bro. Vernon Willard officiating. Burial was in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.
