STANFORD — The Lincoln County soccer Patriots closed out their regular season Monday night with a 3-1 win over visiting Southwestern.
After trailing 1-0 at the half, senior Brandon Dixon scored with a shot to the left of Warrior keeper Mohammed Abou El-ezz just over five minutes into the second half to tie the game.
Eight minutes later, sophomore Trey Cummins scored to put Lincoln on top to stay 2-1. Cummins got the goal off a penalty kick at the 26:23 mark of the second half. A tripping penalty in the goalie box against Southwestern’s Orlando Alvarez set up the PK.
Senior Gavin Poynter would cap off the night’s scoring, lofting in a shot high above the outstretched hands of Abou El-ezz at the 5:11 mark, giving Lincoln the 3-1 win.
Lincoln (9-5-4) outshot Southwestern (7-8-1) 17-13, showing a 12-6 shot advantage in the second half.
Soccer Patriot keeper Carter Tillett had six saves in the win. Abou El-ezz had five saves for the Warriors.
Lincoln will host Danville in the first round of the Boys 45th District Tournament on Tuesday night, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m.
