STANFORD — Lincoln County’s Lucy Singleton had a hand in two of the four first-place finishes by the Lady Patriots Thursday night in the first and only LCHS All-Comers Meet of the season.
Singleton, an eighth-grade runner, teamed up with sophomores Bianca Long and Katherine Rowe and seventh-grader Ava Morgan for a win in the very first event of the day. The Lady Patriot quartet won the girls 4×800 meter relay, which was combined with the boys 4×800, in a time of 12:30.9. Singleton then followed up the team win with an individual victory, taking the 800-meter run in a time of 2:35.2.
Distance runner Chrissy Mullins, a sophomore, was the first to cross the finish line in the girls 3200-meter run, winning in a time of 18:25.1.
Field competitor Abigail Carter rounded out the list of Lady Patriot winners, taking first place in the girls discus. Carter, who finished as runner-up in shot put, threw a distance of 78-09 to lead the discus field. Her throw in shot was 25-02. Carter’s teammate, Sara Mayberry, finished just behind her in discus, placing fourth with a throw of 66-06.
Wins have been few and far between for the Lincoln track and field teams so far this season, with larger high school teams dominating the competitions. The Lady Patriot and Patriot teams have just over a dozen athletes between them, with over a third still in middle school.
In Thursday’s meet for instance, East Jessamine, which easily won both the girls and boys team divisions, had 17 high school boys running in just the 200-meter dash alone. Lincoln has only one high school boy running track – John Sparkman.
Sparkman, a freshman, placed fifth in both of the events he ran in Thursday. He completed the 1600-meter run in 5:57.6 and was timed at 2:34.7 in the 800-meter run.
The Lady Patriots scored 51 points in the meet to finish third behind East Jessamine (89) and West Jessamine (57).
Singleton figured in three scoring events, adding a runner-up finish in the 800-meter relay to her previous wins. She, Morgan, Long and Maddy Slone sprinted to the finish in 2:04.7.
Just before the 800 relay, Slone picked up some individual points, running third in the 100-meter dash in 14.3 seconds.
Kara Linn Loudermilk, a seventh-grade field competitor, also scored in three different events, finishing second, third and fifth individually. Loudermilk scored her runner-up finish in high jump by clearing 4-06. She placed third in long jump with a distance of 13-00.50 and fifth in triple jump with 27-01.00.
Rowe earned points in the 1600-meter run for the Lady Pats, finishing in 7:50.5.
The Patriots scored 13 points to place fourth behind East Jessamine (106), Garrard County (38) and West Jessamine (34).
Matt Slone, a senior, had the Lincoln boys high finish with his fourth-place performance in discus. He threw a distance of 89-09. Teammate Colton Bowling placed behind him in sixth with 84-05.
Bowling, a sophomore, also scored in shot put going a distance of 29-01 to place seventh. Bret Edgington also scored in shot, placing eighth in 28-11.
