Norman Lee Alford, 79, of Waynesburg, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born in Waynesburg, Kentucky on May 10, 1937, son of the late Elmer and Viola Clay Alford. He was a Marine Corps veteran (1955 to 1960) and a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church. He loved his Lord, his family and his life in general. He was a butcher by trade, working at Fisher Packing in Louisville for 15 years and Alford’s Custom Slaughter and Processing in Waynesburg for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lela Jane Davenport Alford, whom he married on December 1, 1962; three daughters, Cathy (Brian) Stapleton of Eubank, Mary (David) Adams of Waynesburg and Donna (Rodney) Davis of Roberta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Katrina (Allen) Dickhaus, Samantha Stapleton (Tim Miller), Justine (Jordan) Duncan, Donald Adams, Maddie Adams, Rachel Venoy and Jesse Venoy; two brothers, J.C. (Betty) Alford of South Carolina and Richard (Caroline) Alford of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Dorothy (Morris) Martin of Junction City and Deloris Cornett of Waynesburg; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a large extended church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lawrence Perry.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Parlor Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Greg Lockard and Bro. Tony Hall officiating.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
The family request donations be made to the Parlor Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
