Leonard “Ed” G. Gooch, Jr., of Oakton, Va., died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in Richmond, Va.
Born May 7, 1943, “Ed” was a beloved son of the late Leonard G. Gooch, Sr. and Mildred Martin Gooch. A native of Waynesburg, Ky., he was a graduate of Memorial High School in Waynesburg and Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, where he earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice. After he served two tours in the Vietnam War as captain for the United States Army, Ed began his security career in Virginia. He retired as a Washington, D.C. policeman, and then worked at the Department of Justice for 10 years; and continued to work at the Embassy of Taiwan in Washington DC until his death. Ed was an avid reader, a University of Kentucky basketball fan, a member of the Virginia Blue Knights, quick-witted, devoted to his family and was a loyal friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard G. Gooch Sr. and Mildred Martin Gooch; and eldest brother, Freddie Gooch.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives; two grandsons; his two siblings, Peggy Gooch Spears and Johnnie Gooch; three nieces; and one nephew.
Ed was cremated and the Celebration of Life was at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Oakton United Methodist Church, 2951 Chain Bridge Road, Oakton, VA 22124.
