Anne Gilmer Walters, 102, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, in Ohio.
Born March 17, 1914, in Hansonville, Russell County, Va., Anne and her family moved in 1920 to Hustonville, Lincoln County, followed by a move to nearby McKinney. She was one of 10 children (three brothers and seven sisters) and was the last remaining member of this loving family. Anne graduated from McKinney High School in 1932 and attended Berea College. She received her teaching certificate and began teaching at the McCormack Christian Church in Lincoln County followed by many other jobs over many years. She retired at 84.
In addition to her family, she had a wide and intense variety of interests.
Her life has been highlighted by her devotion to her husband, son, granddaughter, grandson and great grandson, love of her family and her Church, discussing meaningful issues in her life and exercising thoughtful judgment about these issues.
On Feb. 24, 1936, she married Edward Ward Walters and in 1939, she gave birth to their only child, Edward Dale Walters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur C. Gilmer Sr. and India Ethel (Macfarlane) Gilmer; her husband, Edward Ward Walters, who passed away in 1968; and a grandson, Ward Owen Walters.
Survivors include her son, Edward Dale Walters of Topeka, Kansas; granddaughter, Marcy Lynn (Walters) Barkley and great grandson, Devin Alan Barkley of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Phyllis (Molen) Walters of Topeka, Kansas; along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 29 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Kettering, Ohio.
