The members of the Lincoln County Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team just completed their second straight undefeated season, extending their record to 54-0 by repeating as champion in the 2016 Salt River Conference Tournament.
The Lincoln girls had to go to overtime to defend their Salt River title, pulling away in the extra period to down Bondurant Middle School 41-32 on their home floor in Frankfort.
The Lincoln team, which is coached by Rebecca Shearer, Darin Lane and Brad Petrey, cakewalked into the championship game. Lincoln handily defeated East Jessamine 53-7 in the first round of the tournament and Danville was a no-show in round two, literally. Apparently there was some confusion on the game time and Danville never showed up, so Lincoln won by forfeit.
Members of the undefeated team are: Chloee Dunn, Haleigh Ellison, Hayley Griffin, Madison Griffin Brianna Johnson, Abby Lane, Karalinn Loudermilk, Ally Lynn, Faith Moore, Claudia Padgett, Kelby Petrey, Chloe Ralston, Alyvia Taylor, Michaela Tracy and Peyton Ward.
Lincoln brought home three trophies from the Salt River Tournament. The sixth-grade LCMS girls finished as runner-up to Mercer County in their title game while the eighth-grade girls finished as runner-up to Anderson County in their tourney.
