CRAB ORCHARD – Due to increased crime at Cedar Creak Lake, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has stepped up patrol in that area.
LCSO Chief Deputy Brandon Curlis said there has been a lot of theft, vandalism and criminal mischief in the area.
“Like thefts of catalytic converters, stealing gas, that sort of thing,” Curlis said. “The public has reached out to Shawn (Hines) and the office through Facebook, kind of discouraging people to utilize the lake and we don’t want that. We want people to feel comfortable to come down and fish and have a good time out there.”
In an effort to cut down on the crime and allow the public to enjoy the lake without worrying, the LCSO has increased patrol at boat ramps at different hours until further notice.
“Catalytic converters aren’t small and it’s damaging to vehicles, as well,” he said. “You leave your truck and trailer parked there and you want it to be the same when you get back.”
The LCSO wants the public to know they’re doing what they can to fix the problem.
“We’re encouraging people if they see something, say something,” Curlis said.
Suspicious activity can be reported by calling the non-emergency 9-1-1 number, which is 859-792-3023.
“We want everybody to feel comfortable going, it’s great for our county,” Curlis said.
The Sheriff’s Office said it’s not their goal to inconvenience anyone but an attempt to put a stop to the high crime area.
