David E. Sims, 87, of Stanford, KY passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Born on February 16, 1936 in Waynesburg to the late Duval, Sr. and Jestie Roberts Sims. He is the widower to the late Teruko Nada Sims. David was co-owner/operator, along with his brother Clinton Sims, of Sims Brother’s Service Station from 1966 to 1996. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. He was also a member of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge 328 for over 50 years and a member of Parlor Grove Baptist Church
Survivors include his niece, Regina Heath of Stanford; two brothers, Clinton Sims and Duval Sims, Jr. (Eleanor); one step-son, Yoshinori Mizokawa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Teruko Sims; parents, Duvall, Sr. and Jestie Sims; two brothers, Albert Sims (infant) and John Sims; one sister, Nancy Hoover; and a step-son, Akinori Mizokawa.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Johnny Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY.
Active Pallbearers are Johnny Sims, Jon Hoover, Shane Sims, Jeff Sims, Chris Sims, Marion Sims and Dave Hoover.
Honorary Pallbearers are members of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge 328.
