On Tuesday, the annual Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs event was held at Cedar Creek Lake by the Lincoln County Operation UNITE Coalition.

“We are giving a good time in nature and showing them there are other options,” said Lincoln County UNITE Chairperson Andrea Miller. “I’m very pleased with the turnout. It is a great event. We are so thankful to all of sponsors, we have such good community support for it.”

The event was sponsored by PBK Bank, Fort Logan Hospital, Lincoln County Schools, Ky Fish and Wildlife and Pittman Creek Wholesale.

The Lincoln County High School fishing team, alongside professional angler Charlie Evans were in attendance after visiting elementary schools in the county to encourage turnout for the event.

“I’m very appreciative of my guys coming out to help,” said Eric Jones, the school’s fishing coach. “They are always willing to help anytime I need volunteers for community events they are always here. We were at Highland and Crab Orchard elementary with Charlie Evans and the Paw Patrol we a couple of my guys with us for that. I’m glad to see the turnout increasing. Anytime you can get the Paw Patrol here it’s gonna be a good time.”

Stanford Chief of Police Zachary Middleton is glad to see the event growing in popularity each year.

“It is always something we enjoy coming out to, we enjoy it,” Middleton said. “It is a reminder that their are alternatives to getting involved in bad activities. Hopefully it can change future plans and lives.”
