Albert Gene VonLinger, 85, of Stanford, KY passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford. Born on January 3, 1938 to the late Albert Louis and Edith Opal Conaster VonLinger. He was a member of Waynesburg Pentecostal Church. Gene welded at his home and later at his shop in Stanford for 52 years. He worked construction, building bridges in Alabama and Georgia, where he was know as “Alabama Doughboy”. He enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting anything and everything. Junk was a word Gene didn’t like. To him, everything had a purpose. He had the mind of an engineer and was always learning and teaching himself new things.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Yocum VonLinger; three children, Albert Gene VonLinger, Jr., Lindsey Yocum (Donna) and Gina Leach (Barry); six grandchildren, Shane Yocum, Barbara Moore (Donathan), Shelley Norris (Wes), Lonnie “Punkin” Brown (MiKayla), Tucker Leach (Kristen) and Livy Floyd (Eli); thirteen great-grandchildren, Gunner Moore (Alexis), Faith Moore, Keegan Brown, Zack Moore, McKayla Yocum, Tatum Brown, Kyla Moore, Hailey Yocum, Lane Norris, Colton Norris, Axel Leach, Addie Montgomery and Augustus Floyd; two great-grandchildren due this summer; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Edith VonLinger; one brother, Henry L. VonLinger; one daughter, Teresa Ann Brown.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Funeral service will be on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Naylor and Junior Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at VonLinger Family Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers are Punkin Brown, Shane Yocum, Tucker Leach, Gunner Moore, Zach Moore, Eli Floyd, Donathan Moore and Jerry Wes Norris.
Honorary Pallbearers are Les Gooch, granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
