The Hampton by Hilton in Danville, in partnership with Central Kentucky Aquatics, is offering a life-saving skill to the community: learn-to-swim lessons.

Since September, CKA and The Hampton by Hilton in Danville have forged a partnership to offer swim lessons on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings to the community.

CKA, a local competitive swim club associated with USA and KY Swimming, started a swim lesson program in May at Centre College. More than 100 students went through the program during the summer. However, this fall Centre’s swim team resumed its competitive season as well as CKA and area high schools. With more than four swim teams vying for time in the same pool, the CKA swim lessons program didn’t have pool time.

“With Centre’s swim team resuming its swim team season and the pool time drying up, we had to get creative,” said CKA swim coach Sam Gaddie. “While a competitive team needs a 25-yard pool to practice, we don’t need as large of a pool to teach swim lessons. Not only does The Hampton by Hilton pool give us enough space for lessons, it is a nice, heated pool that fits our needs better for younger swimmers just learning to swim.”

“We are delighted to provide our pool for a community outreach program,” said Susan Megilligan, operations manager at The Hampton by Hilton. “Being able to partner with CKA and provide a life-saving skill has been exciting for our staff too. We love meeting parents as they come in to attend the swim lessons or wait in our lobby. It’s nice to grow more connections in the community.”

CKA offers swim lessons in four different levels of development from the very beginner (CKA 101) to a more advanced level of learning each stroke (CKA 401): butterfly, breast, backstroke and freestyle. Each session includes 8 classes, 30 minutes in length with a 1 to 3 ratio with the instructor to ensure a lot of attention and potential for skill growth. For those who complete all four sessions and still want more instruction; want to add to their weekly exercise and stamina for other sports; or want to compete in swimming, CKA offers the competitive swim team.
