Bastin repeats as cross country regional champ

Abigail Bastin of Lincoln County won her second consecutive regional cross country championship Saturday, finishing first in the Region 2A-5 girls race in Mill Springs.

Bastin, a freshman, had a winning time of 19:50 over the 5-kilometer course at Cave Lake Park that was 49 seconds faster than she ran a year ago in her regional race on the same course.

Five local teams qualified for the state meet Friday and Saturday in Paris. The Mercer County boys and Boyle County and Lincoln girls qualified in Region 2A-5, and the Danville boys and girls qualified in the Region 1A-5 meet in Lexington. Additionally, six local runners earned individual qualifying berths.

Marshall Hart and Clayra Darnell of Mercer, Max Germann of Boyle and Addison Hill of Danville Christian finished in the top 10 in their respective races.
