Camp Horsin’ Around names new board members

Judge Lindsay Hughes Thurston and banker Lawrence Wetherby, III have been elected to the Camp Horsin’ Around Board of Directors. The camp is a non-profit organization that provides an outdoor adventure for children whose health is compromised or have special needs.

Thurston serves as the Fayette County District Court Judge, 3rd Division. Her nearly 20-year career has been dedicated to public service as an attorney and judge. Thurston has also served the community on numerous non-profit boards including Bluegrass Crime Stoppers, Dress for Success Lexington, the Chrysalis House, the Well of Lexington, and the Transit Authority of Lexington-Fayette County Urban Government/LexTran. She also serves as the Fayette District Court’s designee to the Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Coalition.

Wetherby’s career in financial services has spanned nearly 20 years. He currently serves as Senior Business Banker, Vice-President Commercial Lending for Republic Bank. Prior that that, he served the public as an ombudsman for county and city governments of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Wetherby was elected by Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton to the Lexington Management District, and is past chair of the Downtown Lexington Partnership.

Camp Horsin’ Around is located near Perryville on 191 acres of land in Boyle and Mercer counties. The site has beautiful rolling hills, a small river and lots of space for hiking, fishing, swimming, boating, rock wall climbing, and other activities for campers. Children who benefit from camp programming include those with serious and chronic medical conditions and special needs – cancer, autism, blood disorders, diabetes, orthopedic/neuromuscular conditions – as well as children coping with the loss of a loved one. Camping groups provide counselors, volunteers, medical staff and supervisors for their camp session. Camp Horsin’ Around is also available for special group outings.
